” A Three Hotel City” Collaborators Marisa Allen and Joel Stern use improvisation and poetry in an experimental sound performance which captures the mood of contemporary society in decline. Set against a live lighting installation, A Three Hotel City offers a thought provoking, sonic experience using a myriad of instruments. The 30 minute show involves improvised sound meshed with a spoken word poem of the same name ‘A Three Hotel City’. The performances explore themes of society in decline in the context of an exciting sound narrative of violin, viola, synth, and assorted instruments. Set against a background of a live lighting installation counterpoints the sonic explorations and creates a stage of visual beauty. An interplay between improvisers Marisa Allen and Joel Stern means that no two shows are exactly the same and audiences are treated to both the unique experience of the creation of an art form in real time and a dialogue between two of Australia’s highly innovative and specialised sound artists.
